Dr. JoAnn Culverhouse

Served LBUSD as principal across three school sites from approximately 1999 to 2014: El Morro Elementary, Thurston Middle School, and Laguna Beach High School — a roughly fifteen-year tenure across all three non-Top-of-the-World school sites. Per a Patch staff-announcements piece dated September 4, 2013, she was Laguna Beach High School principal at that time. After leaving LBUSD she served at Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District as Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services and then Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, and since February 2017 has been superintendent of the La Habra City School District. On December 16, 2024 the new LBUSD board majority voted to offer her the interim superintendent role; per Voice of OC, she declined the offer after the December meeting. She never served as LBUSD interim superintendent — the role was filled in practice by Acting Superintendent Jeff Dixon.
